Where did we go wrong here? Well, opting to bowl first was the right decision – it had been raining all summer, and the forecast was clear for the rest of the afternoon, so the thinking was that Strongroom would bat on a slightly drier and less stodgy surface later in the afternoon. Although we bowled well early doors, LF got off to a steady start, posting 57 for the opening wicket. We bowled 8 bowlers in all! As we progress through a glut of new recruits, there is a need to try new people out, and new Aussie ‘Knighty’ showed some potential with some whippy right-arm medium-fast off a short-run. We had LF 74-5, and in some trouble, but they went on to post 171-9, thanks to some good clean hitting from their number’s 6 & 7. James Schneider [4-28] was the pick of the bowlers, bowling his juicy leg-breaks with considerable guile and skill.
Tea Report: 8/10 Andy Reid laid on a superb traditional spread of sarnies and cakes. A great effort considering this may be his 2nd and last game.
So, the target was 172. I felt confident when chatting to Woolhouse before we started, but sadly myself and Rich only amassed 4 between us, which didn’t help matters. Andy Reid [18] played a fine, batting innings, giving good support to Schneider [57*]. Whilst these two were at the crease, we always had a chance. But…a collapse was in the air, and indeed it struck with some swiftness, as Strongroom deviated from 50-2 to 126 all out. Schneider played a really fine innings, holding it together, but no-one else could match his determination. LF bowled and fielded tightly, and fully deserved this win.
