Both teams were unsure what to expect in this new fixture, but upon deciding to bat first on a damp track Woodstock soon realised they were up against a quality opposition. Opening bowlers Ray and Gabbay both bowled good lines and got the ball to jag around under cloudy skies. In no time Woodstock were 10-3, with all three batsmen clean bowled. Simon Ray then turned to the lively pace of James Morris and the wily finger-spin of Jolyon Rebbeck. It was to prove a deadly combination as both bowlers attacked the stumps and the Woodstock batsmen appeared tentative to come forwards. Morris, off his usual long run, claimed three clean bowled and finished with 5-9 off 8 overs. Woodstock had been routed and Strongroom had bowled and fielded with great commitment.
Tea Rating: 6/10 A good range of purchased sandwiches from J Gower, Asian nibbles from D Gower and cakes from Chris Englefield.
Strongroom opened with Ed Boiling, in his first outing for 4 years, and Chris Englefield. Both batsmen looked solid, but fell to the teasing spin of Lorne, but Chris showed signs of starting to get to grips with our stodgy British wickets. At 23-2 a wobble was always possible, but muscular hitting from David Proctor and cheeky batting from Pete Cannon saw Strongroom home in just 11 overs. This is Strongroom's sixth consecutive victory. Can we maintain it to the end of the season?
