A last minute change of venue (due to a double-booking) meant we were playing on an unprepared strip, but on winning the toss this didn’t stop Bohemians from electing to bat first on the small Ferme Park ground, part of the complex of cricket grounds nestled in this part of Crouch End. The dangerous James Kelly was soon dismissed, courtesy of a smart run out between Paddy and myself, but R.Leece rode his luck and hit the ball cleanly on his way to 52 (retired). Strongroom’s bowlers were rotated briskly, and D.Gower was unlucky having three catches dropped in the deep off his tempting off-breaks. Bohemians scrambled their way to 123, probably 50 short on this small ground.
Rather bizarrely, openers Jules and Martin were both caught and bowled by A.Kelly in the first few overs, and this sent a ripple of interest through both teams. However, Jimmy Hall [29], Will Davies [48*] and Mark Mellor [26*] all played very well and took us to the total with ease. Jimmy stroked the ball with his trademark ease, whereas Mark and Will both employed more violent methods in belting several 6s around the boundary. This was a fun fixture, enjoyed by both teams, and we retired to watch the Holland vs. Uruguay in the club house and enjoy a pint on a lovely evening.
