A feeble batting collapse condemned the Gardeners to their first defeat of the season as the last five wickets went down for just 13 runs.
Chasing 117 to win off 35 overs after another competent fielding display, Rupert's dominant innings put his team in command even when he was out three short of his maiden Gardeners fifty at 69-3, trapped in front by 'turncoat' Andy Staniforth.
But his team-mates could not follow his example in the face of some tidy bowling and, even when they needed just six runs to win with four overs left, they lost their last three wickets for one run to throw away a game they should easily have won.
Julian's outstanding figures of 4-6 had done the most damage to Strong Room's innings, but the wickets were shared around seven bowlers, with Martin writing himself into the record books by becoming the first Gardener to take a wicket with his first ball for the club, thanks to an outstanding catch at wide mid-on by Joe.
