Match report by London Fields Fixtures Secretary Steve Donelan
Strongroom won an exciting T20 in Regents Park on Friday evening. Needing 2 off the final ball, LFCC, in the fading light, dropped a difficult catch on the boundary that would have won the game.
Strongroom won the toss and elected to bowl. Excellent batting from Will Isaac (36) and Will Hargreaves (43) laid the foundation of a decent score for LF, aided by the top scorer, Mr Extras who retired on 50 plus.
Strongroom started positively and were ahead of the run rate when Steve Fernbank made the initial breakthrough aided by an excellent stumping from Robin Friend. Very decent bowling from Gautum Mohanty, supported by Killian Toomey and Rob Pearson meant that the ‘home’ side required 12 an over with 9 overs left. Strongroom unleashed a barrage of clean hitting using railway sleepers for bats and some streaky edges for four. Sumer batted well and retired on 50 and the LF skipper unwillingly helped the acceleration (2 overs for 36 – "ouch") and dragged Strongroom over the line.
Many thanks to Ben Boorman (Pacific CC) and Rob Pearson (Ashtead CC) for their guest appearances and to Sheldon (Pacific CC) for umpiring.
A final thanks to Strongroom Cricket Club for their kind invitation and we look forward to playing the longer version at Highgate Woods on 9th June.
