Below is the match report as written by Mike Gabbay for London Nigerians. I felt too lazy to write our own, and this one gives a good portrayal of what was a very disappointing performance for us. A game we could have won, yet LNCC played the better cricket and deserved to win (JG):
1.
Two fifteen, Two fifteen, For a Strongroom victory, All in the cricket field Strode the LNCC. "In the game, walking in! Attack the ball! We can win": Into the cricket field Strode the LNCC.
2.
"In the game, attack the ball!" Will Strongroom's wickets fall? Was the total high enough? Or could they chase it easily? Theirs not to be relaxed, Theirs not to lose the match, Theirs but to run and catch: Into the cricket field Strode the LNCC.
3.
Runs to right of them, Runs to left of them, Runs in front of them Scoring so freely; Swung the bat of Mitch Nicholson, Calmly the Nigerians bowled on, Into the cricket field, Into the heat of the sun Strode the LNCC.
4.
Two-fourteen in thirty, starting late, Shola scoring seventy eight, Just 10 men to shape their fate And nobody could forsee: Batsmen slogging to the sky Sam and Shola on the fly; Femi at the death maintaining his line With no thought of defeat. Strongroom faltered, but not Not the LNCC
5.
Running to right of them, Running to left of them, Running behind them Fielding so freely; Nicholson, for 92, gone, Others came but not for long, Catch by catch the game was won Back from the cricket field, In the glorious sun All ten of them Strode the LNCC
6.
Let us never forget when The Nigerians held to win with ten. And nobody could forsee The Nigerians holding to the end, With spirit to be seen again, The strength of LNCC.
