We arrived at the Pokhara ground somewhat refreshed after our day off, which we spent paragliding, motorbiking, strolling, eating and drinking. We also visited the Peace Temple on top of the hill overlooking Pokhara and it was here we auspiciously met and recruited Daniel Gush, a Kiwi cricketer travelling through Asia. This was most fortunate, as we had lost the services of Dave G, and we were still awaiting the arrival of the Moore bros on their cycle trip from Kathmandu to Pokhara. So, we arrived, and the ground afforded a lovely view of the Machapuchre mountain range (‘Fish’s tail’). The only blip was that the ground was quite closely situated to the local airport, and so there was a fair bit of audio pollution in the morning, amidst generally gloomy, cloudy, windy and overcast conditions.
Grant lost the toss and Pokhara decide to bat first. Clinton achieved an early breakthrough, but thereafter Pokhara batted very aggressively and posted a good total. Grant bowled well and deserved two wickets. Loaned local Bishnu also bowled tidily, and Joe picked up another two wickets to add to his burgeoning Strongroom tally. We dropped a few catches, and all in all it was quite a disappointing performance.
Our innings never really got going. Myself and Clinton hung around for a few overs, but scoring runs was always a challenge, and wickets gradually fell. We ended up 60 runs short of our target, and prepared ourselves for our next match which immediately followed this one!
