New opposition for us. Where London meets countryside. Gush pulled out in the morning, not feeling well. Return of Raj and Tryshan, and David Siddal! Debut for Tatos. Lost toss. Cloudy and windy, slopey pitch, steep ramps up to the wicket at each end. Grant and David G opened. Bowled well, but runs kept coming, slopey ground meant boundaries were quite regular. Replaced by Jon and Vinay. Vinay (5-23) bowled superbly - bowled a really full length, several clean-bowled. Was once on a hat-trick. Jon beat the bat many times. Two batsmen stayed in for 15 overs...but scoring was slow. Raj and Tryshan bowled well, but we lacked a spinner. Dan fielded well at short cover. Bowled them out for 149. I felt that was a bit too many, as it wasn’t an easy surface and slope to play on.
Amazing tea. Huge variety, hot tea, strawberry and cream tart, scones and jam and cream, veggy options, pasta, chicken, hot food, sandwiches. And all for £4 each.
We rejigged the batting order to give opportunities to those who did not bowl. However, this didn’t work well, and we were 31-5 in no time. Jon (43*) and David G steadied the ship, then left to Jon and Grant to put on 26 for the final wicket, leaving us needing 41 to win off 11 overs, before two heavy showers called an end to an interestingly balanced game. Obviously they were favourites, but, that last stand was promising. Good opposition, and played in a really good spirit. This game was also notable in that Grant Dixon scored his 1000th Strongroom run, and arrived at 150 Strongroom wickets!
