I didn’t play this match, and so the London Itinerants innings is covered by DP’s post-match WhatsApp stream of consciousness below. There was heavy rain before the match and so both sides did well to get a match in. There was a 2pm start, 30 overs a side. As for our innings, Fenil notched his maiden ‘Room ton, and I hear Alex and Vinay both played classy innings.
Okay, here is DP’s coverage of our bowling and fielding performance:
Great all round bowling performances, too Joe Miller returned with some whippy left arm inswing, took a nice wicket to start us off Bertie bowled five excellent overs for no return Mario delivered his usual tight spell Dave G got a brace, Ben too at the death Seb’s bowling saw a contender for catch of the season, a running one hand grab at cow corner to dismiss a set batsman, Seb was ecstatic as the same fielder, Alex had midfielded a regulation boundary ball for four the previous ball. Alex had a pretty excellent debut, made 30 with the bat and bowled v useful away swing (left arm) medium on a nagging length.
Some sharp fielding by Ben (took a blinder catch over running away over his shoulder). Joe and Alex also looked good and added genuine bite to our fielding. Seb, Mario and me made catches to complete a very pleasant day. Nisar merits a special mention, he bowled superbly, changing his action (on request from umpires, me and both batsmen) after his first wicket-taking over of crooked right arm to more conventional right arm medium. You’ll have to ask him what merited that first over, it was good but fully illegal - something of an enigma...
Vinay made a great, sharp stumping off Ben’s offies and barely put a foot wrong behind the sticks. It’s a hard and pretty much thankless task.
