And so Mark Mellor returned for the first time in about a year. And after Dave and Rich departed after a tidy opening partnership of 100 in 18 overs, he came in and hit his first five scoring shots for 6, 6, 4, 4, 4 and the game was almost over. He scorched to 50 off 20 balls and displayed his usual brand of watchful defence and brutal hitting – threatening the public frolicking in the sunshine. Other Strongroom batsmen perhaps took their eye off the ball, with no one else making double figures. Mellor’s unbeaten ton included six 6s and 17 4s.
Tea Report: 8.5/10 A superb Woolhouse effort in the trad style including pork pies, smashing hand-made sarnies, pickled onions, strawberries, chocolate muffins. All supplied with a running commentary by the tea-maker, with the fare standing up to the hype.
Nine-man Fulmer were already demoralised, and Strongroom were mostly pretty ruthless in wiping them out for just 43 runs. Highlights were Hem’s smooth six over spell, and the return to wicket taking and accuracy by the skipper. A rather disappointingly one-sided match, but Strongroom did the necessary with aplomb.
