We won 11, tied 1 and lost 4 - so a very satisfactory season overall. This against a backdrop of struggling for players at times, and the driest and hottest summer for 42 years. Highlights included another great tour to Devon, wins over long-time adversaries Gardeners, Jesmond Jaguars and Pacific, and bizarrely, a second tie against Gaieties over successive seasons. We enjoyed playing new opposition Cambridge to Casablanca Cycling Cricket Club and Lankians, and hope to play them again in 2019.
Low-lights included a mauling by Jesmond Jaguars in May, a loss against Pacific with insufficient players, and a loss to Budleigh Salterton on tour when Adrian and Rich were rendered unable to field.
Stand-out performers in 2018 were Vinay, Grant and Mohmed Godhi. Vinay returned from a knee operation with extra vigour in his game, a highlight being his dismissal of the Phoenix skipper at Harberton. Grant again was the engine of the bowling, and his economy rate was much-improved. Mohmed was again devastating with the ball throughout the season, and his aggressive batting against Jesmond Jags set the tone for our epic victory. Good seasons were also had by the veteran Gower bros, and semi-veteran Jimmy Hall. Mention should also go to Mohmed's mate Rashid Pathan - who smashed two 50s and a ton in his four outings for Strongroom. We hope to see more of him in 2019. Finally, David Proctor skippered very well - his coaching experience is clearly paying dividends.
